heat!

We had a guy come to fix our boiler and he noticed that our gas hadn’t been turned on. So on it went and the heat does flow. Tomorrow will bring a new hot shower box- more water pressure and heat. These are coming just as its become coldy cold cold cold out there.

This will be my first relatively real winter in a few years. Our fixups should make it more tolerable.

party all the time

it doesn’t get much better than this. why can’t life be more like this all the time?

easy days

Today and tomorrow are our only truly free days left in our program. We’ll begin preparations for our independent research projects this week and any time off in the coming months will still have the research hanging over our heads. We have to enjoy it while we can- so we’re off to Echo’s.

emergencies for me then

We had a pretty interesting presentation by a guy from Oxfam today.  We had our stressful 2 hour exam deal and then had a lunch break before this guy’s Oxfam sponsored lecture.  It was very, very interesting.  Compared to the other lectures we’ve had from outsiders, it was very well-timed.  We were all pretty up to speed on the topics and technologies that he was talking about.

I’ll have to get creative this weekend- our last weekend of freedom before our independent research projects swallow us up.  Maybe a leisurely bike ride.

Fawke(s) (that), Guy

Guido Fawkes, aka Guy Fawkes, aka the Punisher of Parliment, aka excuse for lots of fireworks: Today’s his day.

What I know about him comes simply from the movie V for Vendetta.  I don’t know what people think about him, the holiday, or the movie.  I’ve had no time to canvass the campus for opinion, insight, or fake mustaches.  I won’t even be able to watch any fireworks or burning effigies tonight, because I’ll be face down in the muck, preparing for my exam tomorrow.

The good news: by this time tomorrow I’ll be face down in my own pillow preparing for our party.

guy fawkes

absolutely gutted

I let in a goal in the last minute of the game; final score Loughborough 8, Warwick 8.  I’m truly gutted.  I just started training two weeks ago, decided to play in today’s match on Monday, and actually joined the squad today alright.  I’m a bit surprised at how upset I am, but it was a rubbish goal.  We had loads of chances and possession but didn’t produce enough.  This is going to affect our climb out of the Midlands league and the seeding for the national tournament… bullocks!  Well at least the coach ride back was entertaining, the driver put on a DVD- interesting genre.

Anyhow, the exam went well.  One more to go Friday, then Our Party Friday night at ours, yeah?

23 hours…

So tomorrow at 9:15 the exam papers will be handed out.  We have 15 minutes of ‘pencil-up’ reading time before we begin at 9:30.  Two hours, four questions, six and a half years since I’ve taken a test.

It’s exciting, but actually I’m more excited for my first lacrosse game in over ten years.  I’ve been selected for our away game tomorrow afternoon at… where is it?  I forget, last week the team was upset by Nottingham.  Apparently we’re supposed to be the kings of the Midlands, then we go and lose to Nottingham?  One of our captains was stressing how crucial this next game will be.  Who is it again? Gramly? Warly? OK, I looked it up, Warwick, I’ll make my international debut at Warwick.
